Comrades, I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and I wish you a
very Happy New Year. The
Christmas Party was real nice. The
food was great thanks to Lindy McKay, Neal Roberts, Paul McKay and all the
ladies for their jello salads and desserts.
I also would like to thank the ladies for the great job they did
decorating the hall and for our Christmas present. The impromptu New Year's Eve party was a big
success. It was a covered dish affair
and we had about forty people partying in the bar area. We had party hats and favors, some of the
men played cards and the women played left, right and center (a dice
game). We had plenty of food listened
to music and the big hit was bouncing a balloon around the room, who would
have thought. At midnight we watched
the ball drop, sang "Auld Lang Syne" and kissed Happy New
Year. I can't remember seeing that
many people having that much fun at the Legion that late at night for a very
long time. I hope that it will be
even bigger next year. On the membership scene, we are 15 people short of
making goal and 3-star. If you didn't
realize it and your membership card says 2007, you are delinquent. The Legion operates on the July to June
fiscal year, so dues become due on July 1st of each year. Please help your Post make goal.
If you have already paid your dues, try to sign up a new member. I am still looking for someone to take over as Finance
Officer. Bobby Young had to decline
for personal reasons. Turkey shoots are still doing great and everyone wants
them to continue. I was talking to
some of the wives and girl friends of the shooters and they said it was nice
to have a place to bring their kids on a Sunday. They said the kids had a place to play outside and it was more
of a family atmosphere than any other place they have been for turkey
shoots. Keep up the good work Mike &
Elaine and all their helpers. For God and Country, Yours in Legion service. Jim

President’s
Message... Dear Liberty Belles and Ringletts, A
new year has started and we have a lot to accomplish before our
administrative year ends in June.
Membership is going very slow as we are only at 85% and need 26 more
renewals to make our goal. If you
know someone what has not paid their 2008 dues, please encourage them to do
so, or pay their dues as a gift for them.
We need to help anyone who would like to come out to our Unit meetings
held the first Thursday of the month at 7:30 PM. If you would like to
come and do not drive after dark, please call me at 301-872-4646 and I
would be glad to come and pick you up.
You the members are the backbone of this great organization and
without you, we would not be able to get our programs done. Speaking
about programs, our Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation Chairman, Linda
Embach, has been really busy getting all of those Christmas stockings and
hats that were donated packed up and
sent out to the troops. We have
received several "thank you" notes and pictures from the troops
expressing their appreciation. After
working the wrapping party at Charlotte Hall on Saturday, Linda stuffed and
got the boxes ready the next day to be mailed over to Iraq and Afghanistan. The postage to mail the packages was over
$100.00. This is why we need you
membership and support so your unit can continue to do all these wonderful
things for our veterans and troops.
Linda's grandson is in Afghanistan.
Please keep him in your prayers. American
Legion Birthday. Dinner is scheduled for March 15th at 6 PM. All are invited. Cost is a "covered dish" of your favorite food to
share with everyone. The men will fix
the meat, so come out and share good food and fellowship. The
Unit is having a Yard Sale on May 3rd from 8:00AM to noon. Mark your calendars and start Spring
cleaning your closets for items you can donate. Tables for rent will be $10.00. Please contact Sherry Pope 301-862-1272 or myself. Americanism
- Our essay contest will close on 1 February. We hope that all the schools have participated. Let freedom ring as our pride is
forever,
President,
