St Mary's County Historical Society

The Society is a non-profit organization with facilities located in St. Mary's
County, Maryland. The SMCHS was organized on 25 October 1951, with
the following objectives:
- to collect all the available historical material connected
with or associated with the history of St. Mary's County and
carefully to preserve the same
- to collect, preserve, and diffuse such information as may be
available in the field of genealogy connected with the above named
county
The above named objectives shall include the
- collections of historical relics
- museum materials
- copies of local county newspapers
- old church records
- private papers
- monographs
- letters, and other materials of such nature.

Tudor Hall

The St. Mary's County Historical Society is
currently using two unique buildings in Leonardtown, Maryland, the
seat of St. Mary's County. Historic Tudor Hall
located at the end of Tudor Hall Lane and within Tudor Hall Circle
houses the society's:

The Old Jail

TheOld Jail serves as an
Information Center for St. Mary's County during certain times of the year.
This building also serves as a museum which contains many artifacts
relating to the history of St. Mary's County.

Book and Gift Store

The Book And Gift Shop is located on the first floor of Tudor
Hall. It features genealogies on St. Mary's County and Southern
Maryland families as well as excellent histories on St. Mary's
County and Maryland. Also for sale are transcriptions and
compilations of birth, death and census records and prerogative,
levy and orphan court records. New publications are always being
added to our inventory to offer readers, history lovers and
researchers a great selection. A mail order service is available
across the country.
In the gift department, unique items for gift giving are on sale
at economical prices. The selection includes greeting cards
illustrated with etchings by local artists, exquisite decorative
plates, Maryland and St. Mary's County coffee mugs, historic maps,
flags, and shelf sitters depicting historic sites and homes of St.
Mary's County. Browsers are welcome. The Gift Shop hours are the
same as our business office.
